Creative Expression as Part of the Healing Process
Art therapy combines the creative process with therapeutic support to help individuals explore emotions, communicate experiences and develop insight in ways that may feel different from traditional conversation alone. Artistic ability is not required.
Art Therapy May Support
• Emotional expression and self-awareness
• Stress and anxiety management
• Trauma and grief processing
• Self-esteem and identity development
• Healthy coping and emotional regulation
• Communication for children, adolescents and adults
What Sessions May Include
Depending on the patient’s age, needs and treatment goals, a session may include drawing, painting, collage or other structured creative activities followed by reflection with a qualified professional. Activities are selected as part of an individualized plan of care.
Art therapy is a clinical service and is different from an art class. Availability and appropriateness are determined through assessment and treatment planning.
